Plot[]

Both Max and 99 have a strange dream - 86 is dressed like an movie American Indian Chief; 99 is painted black and white; and their crying child is an alligator! The next day there is an explanation for this as well as other strange dreams experienced by the Chief and the rest of official Washington: they are hallucinations caused by a "miracle drug" discovered by KAOS's "mad pharmacist" Jarvis Pym who threatens to wipe out the government by making the dreams permanent unless he is paid $50 million! Can Agents 86 and 99 stop him?

  • Vincent Price (Egghead) is one of four Get Smart guest stars who also played villains (or villainesses) on the Batman TV series, the others being Cesar Romero (Joker) in "The Reluctant Redhead", Julie Newmar (Catwoman) in "The Laser Blazer", and Victor Buono (King Tut) in "Moonlighting Becomes You".
  • Like The Impossible Mission, this episode takes a potshot at singer Tiny Tim during the first scene, where Dr. Pym both mocks the singing and mistakes Tiny for a woman.

Reality Check[]

  • The title refers to the World War II slogan "Is this trip really necessary?" which encouraged Americans to reconsider their personal travel to save oil, gas and rubber (tires) for the war effort. It also refers to the act of "tripping", or hallucinating under the influence of mind-altering substances.
